Preparing for celebrations like Raya is a no-brainer but sometimes just when you think you’ve got it all sorted, you find out you’ve missed some things at the last minute! Here’s a simple checklist to go through to cover most of the basics.
1. Are the guest bathrooms in working order?
Sometimes we don’t use the guest bathrooms much especially if it’s an empty room. Before the guests come, make sure everything inside is in working order! Test the showers, the toilet flush and even the sink taps. Next, did you prepare the necessary soap and shampoos?
2. Have you changed the sheets in the guest bedrooms?
Untouched sheets may look clean but they can actually be really dusty! It’s just safer to change them all again. It’s to avoid potential allergies and illnesses during the festive break.
3. Did you replace the dead plants?
Dead plants aren’t a cheery sight so replace them with beautiful and healthy indoor plants. Not only do the plants lift up the mood and easy on the eyes, they provide clean air in the house!
4. What about changing the curtains or putting them through a wash?
Changing curtains require teamwork because sometimes the eyelets can snap and curtains can be heavy. Not only that, these fabrics are dust collectors so yes, they have to be changed or put through a wash!
5. Don’t forget the ceiling corners
We may have cleaned everything in the house except the ceiling corners! You may also need to renegotiate with the spider that didn’t pay rent for half the year.
6. When was the last time the cushion covers were cleaned?
Cushion covers are often overlooked so it is time for a wash too. We don’t want the family and guests to itch and feel uncomfortable during Raya!
7. Do you have enough kuih raya?
Don’t forget the food! After all the cleaning and decorating, you may have forgotten to get the kuih raya. Stock up on yummy tidbits that are a favourite for all such as kuih kapit, honey cornflakes and honeycomb biscuits. You know what, just get them all!
8. Enough duit raya tak?
It can be quite embarrassing if you forgot to prepare enough duit raya and the sampul duit raya! Best to double check and prepare a bit more just to be safe.
9. Check your car!
Last but not least, those that plan to balik kampung should make sure their cars are in working order too. This is not only for safety purposes but also because you don’t want to break down in the middle of the road!
There you have it, the 8 things to keep in mind and prepare! Selamat Hari Raya!
