If you are spending time rejuvenating your bedroom then you’ll be busy planning and scheming your new layout and which furniture you want. It’s a really great idea to breathe some new life into your bedroom. A relaxing bedroom which is properly laid out is key to a really good night’s sleep. You’re looking to create a tranquil, calm room that’s perfect for a restful time. Spend time visualising how you want your perfect bedroom to look, and have a look online and at home magazines for extra inspiration. Your ideal bedroom is only a few steps away so use your space wisely!
One of the most important things to consider is colours. Colours are important in every room but never so much as in the bedroom. The wrong colours will make the walls jangle and you’ll feel uncomfortable. We look at some one the most popular colour schemes to help guide your thinking:
Pinks and Whites
Ideal for a girly bedroom, pink and white together is sweet, sumptuous and stylish. This is probably not the choice for you if you are sharing your room with a man though – he might feel a little pushed out. But for the single girls out there that want to create their own pink paradise it’s a great choice. Be careful of overdoing it though – choose soft pastel pinks not bright candy floss pinks or it’ll look a little like a teenager’s room! Choose one wall to paint a soft pink and leave all the others magnolia so it doesn’t get too pink! Remember less is more.
Blues and Whites
A pastel blue is a gorgeous choice for any bedroom and is a better choice if a man’s going to be there too! Don’t pick cold bright blues – instead go for soft baby blues that perhaps have a hint of purple or lilac in there. Soft blue is great for creating a relaxed and chilled out atmosphere. If you’re feeling braver then consider a darker blue like navy blue for a regal feel. This will feel sumptuous but avoid making the room too dark all-round by choosing light furnishings and leave a few walls white too.
Yellows and Whites
Yellow is summery, bright and warm and will make waking up in your bedroom an absolute pleasure! It’s a great unisex choice too as it suits both men and women. Go for pastel yellows rather than shocking bright yellows otherwise it might look a bit too much. Choose curtains and carpets that match well and opt for wooden furnishings to set the colours off beautifully.
Putting some thought into your colour scheme will help focus your ideas and will also help you choose furnishings, fixtures and fittings that work well in the room. Be bold and experiment to make it as unique as you are. If you need a little convincing then get some test paint pots so you can see the colour as it will be on the wall – it often looks a lot different to how it looks either on the tin or on paper. Enjoy experimenting and also all the good nights’ sleeps ahead of you!
