A couple in Brooklyn hired interior designers to design their dream home. They wanted their home to have cool ways to bring in light and colour, enough working spaces for each of them and a way to showcase their book collection. The icing on the cake was it was all designed with their two cats in mind.
The designer came up with an amazing built-in bookcase with an uneven ledge on top. The bookcase is in the main living area (measuring 20 x 50 feet with a 10-foot ceiling) and runs from the front to the back of the house. The ledge is specifically made for the cats to roam and laze about.
Some of the shelves jut out to enable the cats to climb up. There are trap doors at either end of the room for the cats to access the floor above. Pretty much a stair made for felines!
Other than building pathways for their cats, they requested to have ample natural light in the house. They had skylights installed to let natural light cascade into the home in areas such as the centre of the bookcase and above the bathroom sink.
In areas where there are no spaces for skylights, they used wide windows to allow light in. By having inbuilt shelves within the kitchen island and using the top of the fridge for storage, the couple managed to bring colours into this area too.
