A child learns best through play because they are not pressured, they are allowed to fail and experiment, and most importantly, they are allowed to have fun!
For this weekend, encourage engineering skills in children by letting them build structures without using building blocks or Legos. Get creative, loosen up and let them build using jellybeans!
WHAAT? Yep, jellybeans!
What You Need
- Gumdrops (if the family isn’t keen on jellybeans)
How To Start?
Get the kids to build a cube by poking the jellybeans on both ends of the toothpicks. They should continue joining the toothpicks using the jellybeans as connectors until it forms a cube.
Make It A Challenge
Get them to stack their jellybean and toothpick cubes to see how tall and wide their buildings can get! They may end up building something altogether new. Watch out or you’ll join them too 😉 which is not a problem anyway.
Have them create different shapes using the jellybeans such as a pyramid as well.
What Will They Learn?
The kids will get to experiment different ways for the cubes to stack on top of another without collapsing.
