Fancy designer rugs can be really pretty, but they are also quite costly. So what do you do if you don’t have the budget? Well, if you really do want a fancy design rug, why not paint a plain rug with the exact colour and design you crave? The process isn’t actually as hard as it may sound.
Here’s a simple example of how to paint designer pattern on your rug.
Items And Directions:
– Low-Pile or Jute Rug
– Masking Tape (For Clean Lines)
– Interior Paint
Lay the rug on a drop cloth or surface that you are not concerned about getting paint on. Make sure the rug is nice and flat. If the ends are curled up, place heavy objects on the ends to get them flat.
Mark your design on the rug with the masking tape. Lines are the easiest to achieve. Just remember, the masking tape will be blank space. In other words, wherever the masking tape lies, the paint will NOT be underneath it.
When you have finished taping the entire rug, and the tape is nice and flat, it is now time to paint. Do note that it’s better to do so a paint-friendly surface. The last thing you want is for your paint to drop onto your nice hardwood floors.
Apply the paint generously to the rug in the open spaces. Brush it on as even as possible. If needed, apply two coats until you reach your desired paint colour. Allow the paint to dry in between each coat.
When the paint is half-way dry, slowly remove the tape. It should come right up, leaving you with perfectly straight lines underneath. Allow the paint to fully dry. And it’s done!
