Everyone needs to escape the hustle and bustle of the city once in a while. Our constant use of devices combined with poor posture causes body aches here and there, which is not helpful at all in our quest for a healthy and happy living. Spas around the city caught on this a long time ago and are constantly upping their game.
Here are six spas that provide a sliver of peace in or away from a busy city.
1. La Sante in The Chateau Spa & Organic Wellness Resort
Owned by Berjaya, The Chateau is an organic spa and wellness resort in Bukit Tinggi. The Chateau is modelled after a 12th century ‘Haut Koenigsbourg’ castle in Alsace, France so expect elegantly decorated interiors. Each of the rooms and suites is equipped with luxurious organic bed and bath linens and bath essentials.
La Sante is the first destination spa in Asia that blends European spa expertise with Asian hospitality. Each of the therapists has at least a year’s experience so guests are in really good hands!
The swimming pool is saline (organic salts from the sea) and unchlorinated which is kinder to the skin and hair. There’s also a free yoga class by the pool every morning.
2. Iridium Spa at St. Regis Kuala Lumpur
Each spa suite comes with a private Jacuzzi and a sauna room. The spa uses ESPA products and technology from Endermologie to target anti-aging, silhouette reshaping, body contouring and for detoxification.
Iridium also offers their signature rituals such as the 210-minute Heritage Tea Aficionado inspired by the classic St. Regis Afternoon tea. The ritual begins with a rice and green tea body scrub followed by a red chai tea bathing ritual to improve circulation. Sounds luxuriously relaxing.
3. Spa Village at The Ritz-Carlton
The Spa Village uses natural local ingredients in their treatments. The treatments are also based on a variety of customs and practices ranging from Nusantara to Peranakan Chinese cultures.
Expect spa treatments with names like Egg Undulation Facials and Rattan Tapping Qi-Gong!
The Sensory Sound Bath is the only one of its kind in Asia. The interior looks like a night under the stars, judging from the pictures. The treatment involves a rhythmical deep tissue massage inspired by Thai and Tui Na techniques.
Other than a plunge pool, guests get a personal milk bath too.
4. The Datai Spa
Another Asian influenced spa, its healing treatments draw inspiration from Bali, India and Tibet. The Datai Spa brings guests closer to nature with four open-air villas set along a winding stream.
Guests get to wind down with soothing chirps from birds and the love song of cicadas. There is also a spacious soak tub with a river view.
5. The Spa at Mandarin Oriental
The Spa’s décor is modern and uses warm lighting to create a soothing ambience. High-end luxury spa products such as Aromatherapy Associates and SKINN are used in their treatments.
Their Digital Wellness Retreat may be what we all need. This 1 hour 20 minutes spa treatment targets strained areas resulting from the frequent use of digital devices.
Designed like a Turkish bath, it’s truly a getaway the moment you step in. Expect to see lanterns and complex mosaics with shades of blue, ochre and green. Upon entering, guests are served with Moroccan mint tea and sweet pastries while lounging around.
The Hammam specialises in Moroccan body treatments such as gommage, a rigorous body exfoliating scrub using a black olive soap called Beldi Black Soap. Treatment includes a facial, deep body scrub, hair masks and aromatic massages.
