Those who grew up watching Disney and Nickelodeon teen shows will remember the themed bedrooms of the TV characters. Our closest themed bedroom ideas were from Ikea catalogues. If you haven’t got the chance to have a themed bedroom decor, maybe you can do it together with your teenager! You get to enjoy the ‘perks’ too ;D
Here are the 6 bedroom themes to ooh and aah over:
1. The Scientist
Think of cool science posters or schematic diagrams, plants in glass beakers, test tube holders to hold stationery and constellations on the walls or ceiling. The study desk and stool in the picture below gives off a laboratory station vibe. You can download posters celebrating mighty women in Science done by Designer Amanda Phingbodhipakkiya. Check out the DNA helix bookshelf too!
2. The Explorer
Go for neutral colours and wooden furnishings for the camper-feel. Frame up a huge world map to place above the study table or headboard. Get them a small globe of the Earth because who knows, they may turn out to be Vernians and are planning their next adventure. No harm adding some dinosaur-related decors or a mini telescope if that’s what they like as well.
3. The Tech Whizz
Make sure your wifi speed and connection is top notch! Next, their study table must be functional because that’s going to be where they spend most of their time. Think of L-shaped tables and a wheeled office chair so your teen can move and switch gadgets easily. The bedroom is literally their home office.
4. The Girly Girl
For the girly rooms, go for pastels or white colours. Teen girls need a good study table too to keep up with schoolwork and assignments. Invest in cool stationery organizers to keep things neat in the room. Consider getting a cushioned or furry bench to be placed at the front of the bed so your teenager can have friends over and lounge comfortably.
5. The Bookworm
Lots. Of. Shelves. You can even make a bookcase part of the headboard. Pictures of quotes from fictional characters can adorn the walls. The teen bookworm can read anywhere but adding a bean bag, a couch or a reading nook wouldn’t hurt either.
6. The Rocker
Go for the industrial vibe when it comes to designing a rocker’s den. Do not be afraid of darker colours because you can still brighten the room up with some dim lights such as the letter marquees from Typo. Stringing fairy lights above the bed act as the stage lights for the teen rocker. Add some soft items such as carpets and rugs to absorb some sound. It is especially important when your teen is rocking out to music.
