Student dorm rooms usually look very bare and can sometimes look run down. To help ‘cover’ it up, redecorate your room using some of these ideas to put in some glam in your student room!
1. Fairy Lights
One of the simplest decorations to get on a budget is fairy lights. Instead of stringing it the usual way, these lights can be arranged into patterns as well. Try arranging it in a spiral or maze-like squares. It can even be used to frame your pictures or stuck on the ceiling so you have a starry night ceiling. You can also clip polaroid photos along the length of the lights too!
2. Gold Circles
Another simple way to glam up a dorm room is to cut our gold circles to be stuck on the walls. It is a minimalist way of decorating. If you’re not fond of gold colours, you can try out rose gold or other colours that you prefer. It’ll also be fun for Christmas in green, red and silver!
3. Hang up pictures or postcards
Most university students will have brought some pictures of their family and friends with them. These pictures can be printed out to be hung or pinned in the room. Shops like Daiso sells strings that come with wooden clips to hold the pictures. In Kaison, the similar materials are sold together with a frame too! If you don’t have pictures, postcards make good picture substitutes too.
4. Posters with awesome frames
It’s easy to put up posters using Blu Tack or Glue Dots but to up the glam factor a little, put up your posters in nice frames. It also makes the room décor look more adult-like. If you’re willing to take a chance with your posters, you can DIY some glamourous frames ala Great Gatsby using washi tapes!
5. Get a fun or standout pillow cover
On top of the usual pillows, you can decorate the bed by having one or a few toss pillows with fun covers! The pillows can be uniquely shaped too instead of the traditional rectangle. Pillows like these adds a little element of play and is also nice to hug and snuggle. It can double as a lapdesk while you work on assignments on the bed.
6. Cute low stools
Student dorm rooms usually just come with one computer chair and no seats for guests. To provide some comfortable seats, get the low stools from shops like Yubiso. You can move the adorable stools to your home once you move out of uni! Stretch that Ringgit!
7. Style up the headboard
Uni dorms can look really sad and a quick way to add life to the room is to style up your headboard. Whether you string it with fairy lights or throw a colourful patterned cloth over it, the possibilities are endless as long as it looks good and it suits your taste.
