The living room is usually where you spend most of your (non-sleep) time at home. Whether it is watching TV with family or having tea with friends, a good sofa means that time will be spent in comfort. Here are some tips on choosing the perfect sofa for your apartment.
1. Choose a Sofa That Fits Your Space
Depending on how much space you have in your apartment, you will need to decide whether to get a 1-seater, 2-seater, 3-seater, or more. If this is the case, then maybe think about the sort of style you want from a sofa, just until you know how much space you do have.
Is it just you and your spouse? A 2-seater would do just fine, but if you’re expecting guests maybe see if you can fit a 3- or 4-seater.
2. Buy a Set to Match
Sofas also come in sets, sometimes referred to as 3 + 2 + 1 or 3 + 2 or 3 + 1, depending on the combination. 3 + 2 would mean a 3-seater and a 2-seater combo, etc. If you want your furniture to match, buying in a set would be better than piecemeal additions over time.
3. Sectional Sofas Give More Flexibility
Sectional sofas are modularly-designed sofas with movable sections. This gives you a lot of flexibility to lay the sections the way you want, or even move them around depending on the situation. Some common layouts for sectional sofas are L-shaped and U-shaped.
4. Multipurpose Sofas for Small Apartments
Modern interior designers LOVE furniture that serve more than one purpose, especially for smaller apartments where space is limited. Many sofas come with built-in storage such as drawers or compartments under them. Some can even be converted into beds.
5. Pick Your Design
Finally, pick a design that you like. Fancy a camelback design? Or maybe you prefer a classic Chesterfield? English-style, Cabriole, Lawson, Bridgewater? There are so many different designs to choose from to match your decor.
