It is very rare to see white picket fences in Asia as not many people would opt for this kind of fence for their homes. But when done right, it can look absolutely amazing. Introducing this charming house in Paya Lebar, Singapore, that looks like a farmhouse you’ve plucked from the country and placed in this bustling country. It’s known as 17 Paya Lebar and is done by Icon Interior Design. This quaint landed house focuses on an eclectic farmhouse-inspired theme that looks simply unique and themed bathrooms for different parts of the house.
Internal Area:
The white picket fence door is framed by a white and blue background. Once you’ve stepped inside, it feels like you have been transported to another country. The living room is a beautiful assortment of white, cream and wood interspersed with black that still adheres to the farmhouse vibe. A delicate light feature on the ceiling adds a touch of whimsy to the room. Moving up a short flight of stairs, you will reach the kitchen, which has been expanded into the backyard to accommodate a wet and dry kitchen. The kitchen has blue as its feature colour with an island and bar counter.
There is a rarely-spotted outdoor toilet as well which is inspired by Balinese villas; but still exudes a quirky farmhouse vibe. The other bathrooms in the house have different themes but somehow; they still work well with the rest of the house’s cottage feel. Although the rest of the house follows the main theme; one feature that stands out is the decor for the owners’ young kids.
Playroom:
Instead of the farmhouse style, the designer suggested that they should create something different for the kids’ playroom. This playroom is located in the attic and since they wanted to fully utilised this space; a treehouse was built inside the room itself. The floor is covered in fake grass for an outdoor atmosphere including the stairs. There is also a very fairytale-like vibe thanks to the fairy lights that adorn the entire ceiling; ensuring that the kids can unleash their imaginations during playtime.
