In a quiet neighbourhood on a beautiful tree-lined street in Ho Chi Minh City lies a serene and peaceful home known as Canopy Villa by VACO Design. It was built to create a sanctuary and a place of rest for the owners after a long and hectic day outside. The location is especially beautiful as it’s surrounded by rivers, lakes and parks which is perfect especially if you love nature. Canopy Villa is a home that focuses on the closeness to nature and tranquillity, a welcome relief from the bustling urban life.
Canopy Roof:
The design team came up with an open design solution for the house and integrated it with nature. Calming sound, light and natural air were given a priority in the house and blended with the garden. However, the main reason the house gets its name is from the long, stretching canopy roof; that shelters the inside and outside spaces, ensuring that the owners can enjoy nature at all times of the year. This is one of the key features of the house and the sliding glass aluminium door system allows a seamless transition between the interior and exterior areas.
By day, these awnings filter in the sunlight that gently illuminates the space but at night; the light is more streamlined and focused. Coupled with a high tech sound system, the effect is absolute relaxation in the home. On the first floor, the canopy is combined with the steel bar system; that becomes a protective layer for the private spaces behind the house.
Interior Area:
Inside the home, the common areas are connected in one big open plan space; which includes the living room, dining area and kitchen. The foyer area copies the concept of European homes by making it the connection between the other rooms. To create privacy for the inhabitants, the rooms and areas are hidden behind dark stone wall panels and wooden louvre curtains; becoming a layer to minimise noise from the street.
The landscape is specifically arranged to enhance the tranquillity of the home; while the interior design is inspired by traditional Vietnamese architecture and tropical architecture. Green, open spaces, leaf louvres, dark wood, natural stones are the main characteristics of the interior design.
